I see this bait-and-switch daily with Indian clients lured by high return projections.

They focus on the probability of success, not the dispersion of outcomes — and the 80% rule rarely fits our joint-family, medical-inflation reality.

My job is smoothing consumption and making risk visible, not chasing averages.

Larry's software is easy to use and for me was reassuring. Larry is perhaps the most honest person I know in the personal finance industry after the late John Bogle who founded Vanguard.

I wish I could invest in TIPs as suggested in the article. I am 76 years old and I am striving for simplification and looking for low cost "auto-pilot investment management. I am skeptical about a TIPS mutual fund as the solution. Please write sometime about what an elderly investor should do.

David, Many thanks for your kind words!

Just email me at kotlikoff@gmail.com and I'll tell you what's possible, not what to do. I don't give investment or financial advice -- just convey the economics approach.

best, Larry
