Assassination is the Antithesis of Democracy

Trump Lives, Amen

The attempt on President Trump’s life is another blight on our country’s history and state of politics. Violence is never ok. And murder, actual or attempted, is the ultimate immoral act. We are a democracy. When one person physically attacks a political candidate, he becomes the autocrat — the I know best, I get to decide, You’re my disciples whether you look it or not.

This presidential campaign is as heated and personal as it gets. Many on both sides are convinced our country’s democracy is at stake. Both candidates are stoking this fire. It’s high time they lowered the temperature. Biden should pardon Trump. Trump should simultaneously publicly reject retribution and acknowledge he lost the election. This will lower the temperature, which is just what the country needs.
